Y Outsourcing?

Successful Facilities Management via Outsourcing

Introduction

Economic uncertainty, Market ups and downs and budgetary pressures are forcing organizations to re-examine their support operations. Facilities Management (FM) outsourcing may lead to a leaner, more efficient organization that can concentrate on core business and reduce operating costs.
An efficient working environment represents an enormous overhead. It also needs significant ongoing investment of managerial time and resource. Outsourcing may be a better option.
Organizations explore outsourcing options for a variety of reasons:
• Cost reduction
• The potential to convert fixed costs to variable costs
• Insufficient management time available for the in-house operation or its improvement
• Difficulty in retaining sufficiently qualified staff
The switch to outsourcing brings advantages including:
• Cost savings of 10% – 20%
• Improved service delivery by specialist FM service providers
• Better attraction and retention of staff by the service providers
• Improved management of existing resources
• Transformational initiatives
• The added value of consultancy expertise
• The potential for better procurement opportunities on an asset refresh

Making FM outsourcing work

• Successful FM outsourcing hinges on strong leadership
• Decision-makers empowered to manage resources, balance the programmer’s priorities and focus on the business benefits realization
• Good stakeholder management and communication are vital
• Clear service levels and governance are needed
Benefits management should also be considered, as FM outsourcing is typically highly visible – end users notice changes to food services, environmental conditions and housekeeping immediately.
Monitor how the initial foreseen benefits will remain intact and of value to the organization. Thorough interrogation of the service provision market is needed, to ensure delivery capability.

Outsourcing Facility Services Can Bring Strategic Advantages

Businesses are increasingly using an outsourcing strategy, including outsourcing of facility services, to achieve strategic advantages: to improve their competitive advantage and to achieve market preservation or dominance goals.
They are pursuing these objectives by focusing on their core business activities, by acquiring marketable benefits (or by gaining cost efficiencies) from strategic partners, through outsourcing.
When it comes out outsourcing facility services, these strategic goals are achieved by implementing a tactical strategy to reduce facility operating costs, to improve control over non-core business functions and to acquire best practice systems.

Let’s review why these goals are important:

Focus on Core Business:

Core business functions are defined as activities and services that customers pay for, or benefit from. Re-directing resources from non-core activities to core business activities is the fundamental revenue and market reason for outsourcing.

For instance the core business for ILRI is to undertake a research and development on various filed of agriculture, with that being said why do ILRI has to spend huge amount of many for non-core business each as having high level construction personnel with intermittent frequency of work? With that comes huge amount of investment on construction material thereby create material mismanagement and global cot to control each items as well.

Through outsourcing, the company can focus its resources on its customers, values and mission and give itself a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Acquire Marketable Benefits:

Beyond getting a task done through outsourcing, contractor products can provide services that add greater value to the buyer’s core business.
I reckoned ILRI used to spend considerable amount of budge for the couple of years but in return the value of facilities hasn’t been improve or added value instead facilities was deteriorating tremendously.
The new concept of outsourcing holds as core value for many concept.
